The ČSD series T 435.0 (from 1988: series 720 ) is a diesel-electric locomotive of the former Czechoslovak State Railways . The locomotive owes its nickname Hector to the barking exhaust sound of the slow-running diesel engine (750 rpm nominal speed) .

history

Special train with a T 435.0 at the Kytlice station

The locomotives were manufactured by ČKD in Prague from 1958 to 1962 . A total of 287 machines were manufactured, including 150 for the then ČSD and 83 for industrial companies in what was then Czechoslovakia. In addition, 54 machines were delivered to Albania , Iraq and the GDR , among others . The Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) ran 20 locomotives as DR series V 75 (from 1970: 107) in the area of Leipzig Central Station.

Their area of application was the heavy shunting service, the transport of local goods trains and outside the heating season occasionally the passenger train service. The vehicles have proven themselves very well in operation. Their reliability and speed were particularly emphasized. In addition, the machines have proven themselves under sometimes extreme climatic conditions. On the other hand, the shunting service with the long front end required a solid sense of proportion on the part of the train driver. Nevertheless, this is the main direction of travel, on the other side of the driver's cab there is only an auxiliary control panel with the absolutely necessary equipment.

In 1988 the locomotives were renamed by the ČSD to the class 720.

From 1995, the ČD had the locomotives decommissioned. Some of the vehicles still exist and are used by private companies in construction train service.
