The Henschel DHG 240 B is a diesel-hydraulic locomotive that was built by the Henschel works . It was intended for use in the shunting service. The axle sequence of the Henschel DHG 240 B is B. The design origin of this machine does not come from Kassel, but from Esslingen. In 1961, Henschel took over the diesel locomotive range from the Esslingen machine factory . From there, the design features such as the cardan shaft drive were taken over and the locomotives were built in Kassel.

The Henschel DHG 240 B was built in 34 copies between 1964 and 1971. The locomotives mainly went to chemical companies and refineries in Germany and Switzerland. Of these, eleven locomotives were equipped to be explosion-proof .
