The MaK G 1600 BB is a diesel-hydraulic locomotive, 16 of which was built between 1971 and 1979 by the company Maschinenbau Kiel (MaK) .
technology
The MaK G 1600 BB is based on the MaK V 90 P variant of the DB series V 90 , which, compared to the DB variant, was equipped with an in-house engine. It was not included in any MaK type range.
The built-in eight-cylinder MaK 8M282AK engine has an output of 1180 kW (1600 HP) at 1000 rpm, and the locomotive reaches a top speed of 44 to 80 km / h, depending on the gearbox setting. The service weight is between 80 and 104 tons, depending on the equipment. In the case of the locomotives with a maximum speed of 44 km / h, there is no route.
In addition, 3 locomotives with the drive technology of the G 1100 BB (six-cylinder engine with 1100 hp) were built in 1971 and 1972 for use in front of coal trains in open-cast mines of the Bavarian Lignite Industry (BBI) . The additional space gained by moving the compressed air frame under the driver's cab could be used for the installation of a heating boiler, which has since been removed.
commitment
While on delivery besides the Dortmunder Eisenbahn (DE) with six machines only pan-Herne Railway and Harbor (WHE) with three machines received a significant series of locomotives that had Osthannoverschen Railways (OHE) also with up to five machines temporarily a larger series. Two of these machines came from the special design for the BBI. The WLE, OHE and WHE machines have now been partially re-engineered, but with the exception of the OHE they are still in use on these railways.
To this day, the G 1600 BB are used by various private railways in Germany and Italy, especially in heavy freight traffic. The main areas of application are northern Germany and the Ruhr area.
