The DWK 110 B are two-axle diesel locomotives with chain drive , which were designed for light shunting in the performance class similar to the Kö II of the Deutsche Reichsbahn. They were built by Deutsche Werke from 1938 to 1941 and used by various private railways in Germany.

A total of 30 copies were built. Some of them have been preserved to this day and some of them are still drivable.

development

The first diesel locomotive from Deutsche Werke left the factory in Kiel-Friedrichsort on February 6, 1932 . After an initial production program with seven types with different power transmission, a second type program was launched in 1938 with only five types. The DWK 110 B is the smallest locomotive in the range and the only one with a chain drive .

The series emerged as a revised version of the DWK D100 from the 1932 type program. The locomotive designation contained the manufacturer's name, the engine power in hp and the wheel arrangement.

The locomotives were delivered in three batches of ten each for shunting. In addition to companies, some private railways received these vehicles, such as the Prenzlauer Kreisbahnen , the Mecklenburgische Friedrich-Wilhelm-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft , the Brandenburgische Städtebahn , the Thüringische Eisenbahn-AG and the Rheinbahn .

technology

Compared to the Kö of the Deutsche Reichsbahn, the DWK locomotives are wider and more angular. There is a step on the side for the shunter. There are differences between the delivery lots, the locomotives of the last series were a little longer than those of the previous deliveries.

The machine system consisted of a six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine from DWK, which originally could be started with compressed air. The engine delivered its power via a multi-plate clutch to a mechanical four-speed gearbox, which was also controlled with compressed air. Both axles were driven by a chain drive .

commitment

Prenzlauer Kreisbahnen

The locomotive was in operation for over 50 years after its delivery in 1938 and has had various ownership designations during that time. At the Deutsche Reichsbahn it was initially referred to as Kö 5752 . In 1959 it received a fluid transmission and was renamed Köf 5752 . In 1970 it was redrawn as 100 952-1 and in 1992 as 310 952-7 . In 1994 the locomotive was retired. It is now, again labeled as Kö 5752 , at the Mecklenburgische Eisenbahnfreunde Schwerin association .

Inorgana

The Anorgana received the locomotive with the serial number 639 in 1939. It was used at various plants in Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia until the mid-1980s. The locomotive has been in the Bavarian Railway Museum in Nördlingen since 1986 .

The serial number 656 was also delivered to the company in 1939, and the locomotive has been owned by the Bavarian Local Railway Association since 1993 . The last photo entry dates from March 2019 and shows the locomotive parked in the former Landshut depot .

Mecklenburg Friedrich Wilhelm Railway Company

The locomotive was delivered to the company in 1939 and was in service until 1993, with three different names. First it received the designation Kö 5049 at the DR-Ost . In 1970 it became the 100 849-9 and in 1992 at DBAG the 310 849-5 . In 1993 the locomotive was taken out of service in Pasewalk . It can be found today in the Railway Museum in Gramzow and was found roadworthy in 2019.

Thuringian Railway Company

The locomotive was delivered to the company as Kö 6 in 1939 and was u. a. at the Weimar-Berka-Blankenhainer Railway . In 1955 it was equipped with a fluid transmission as Köf 5750 , from 1970 as 100 950-5 and from 1992 as 310 950-1 . designated. In the same year it was retired. The locomotive belongs to the Oldtimer Museum Rügen in Prora and has an NVR number 98 80 3310 950-1 D-DP in the German vehicle settings register .

Rheinische Bahngesellschaft

The locomotive was delivered to Rheinische Bahngesellschaft AG, Düsseldorf, for the Oberkassel industrial railway in 1939 and was in service until 1971. Then it went to a private company in Munich . In 1979 it was used in museum operations. Since 2005 it has only been on loan, from 2008 onwards, at the Friesoythe Cloppenburg museum railway in Cloppenburg , it can no longer be found in the 2018 vehicle inventory.

German works

In 1941 a locomotive was taken over by DWK as a works locomotive. The locomotive stayed there the entire time. The last evidence is a photo from 2011 and shows the locomotive disassembled into individual parts.
