The KHD DG 1200 BBM is a diesel locomotive type made by the manufacturer Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD). The four-axle locomotive with the B'B ' wheel arrangement was built from 1960 to 1966 in 18 copies. The DG 1200 BBM was the most powerful locomotive in the Deutz type program in 1959. It is a reinforced version of the DG 1000 BBM .
The series number 98 80 3423 was assigned to this type in the German Vehicle Settings Register.

Of the 18 locomotives built, seven went to the Cologne-Bonn Railways (KBE) . Another six locomotives were taken over by the Cologne-Frechen-Benzelrath Railway (KFBE) . At that time, the majority of the two companies belonged to the city of Cologne. Further locomotives went to the Osthannoversche Eisenbahnen (OHE) , the Altona-Kaltenkirchen-Neumünster (AKN) and the Westfälische Landes-Eisenbahn (WLE) . Hibernia AG was the only industrial customer to accept a locomotive.
Four locomotives each have been sold to the Netherlands and Italy. One locomotive was scrapped. The whereabouts of a locomotive sold to Italy is unknown.
