The manufacturer Vossloh España, SA describes four-axle diesel-electric locomotives for freight and passenger transport as Eurolight (own spelling: EURO LIGHT ) .

history

In December 2009, the manufacturer announced the development of a four-axle diesel locomotive with an axle load of less than 20 t. The new model partially uses components from the previous Euro 4000 and Euro 3000 models and supplements them downwards. In the following year, the series was presented to the public at InnoTrans and then completed its first approval drives in Germany and Italy. In 2011 further tests were carried out on the Velim railway test ring .

Technical specifications

The Eurolight is available as a pure goods variant or for passenger transport with a train heater of 500 kW. The diesel engine used in both variants is a Caterpillar C175 according to Stage IIIa emissions standard with 12 or 16 cylinders and an output of 2,300 or 2,800 kW, which drives four ABB traction motors with an output of 600 kW each via a generator . With an announced 20-cylinder engine, the engine output increases to 3,500 kW. Depending on the application, the locomotive can be designed for speeds of 120 km / h (freight transport) or 140–200 km / h (passenger transport). Use in double traction is possible.

Variants and orders

The variant ordered by the first customer DRS was named UKLight and is referred to as Class 68. This 85 t heavy version for freight and passenger traffic has an output of 2,800 kW, has a usable tank volume of 5,600 l and initially reaches 160 km / h. A later conversion for 200 km / h is possible. The first locomotive arrived by ship in Southampton on January 18, 2014. In November 2014 an additional 10 and in July 2015 a further 7 copies were ordered. After all Class 68 have been delivered, the total stock amounts to 32 copies.

In September 2013, the leasing company Beacon Rail ordered 10 twin-power locomotives for DRS. These are based on UKLight and, in addition to a 708 kW diesel engine, also have a 4,000 kW electric drive for operation at speeds of up to 160 km / h on electrified routes. The designation of the series is Class 88.

At InnoTrans 2012, a variant for the Southeast Asian region was presented under the name Asialight . This six-axle version with narrow-gauge bogies has a mass of 96 t. Engines from MTU, Cummins or Caterpillar with an output of 1,800 kW to 2,800 kW are installed on the drive side.

In October 2013, the South African leasing company Swifambo Rail Leasing placed an order with Vossloh for the delivery of 50 twin-power locomotives based on the Eurolight. This variant has an electrical output of 3,000 kW and a diesel engine with an output of 2,800 kW. The maximum speed is 140 km / h

The Italian logistics provider Dinazzano Po ordered a Eurolight for freight transport in July 2015.
