The GT8-100D / 2S-M is a dual-system - light rail vehicle , which in DUEWAG and Siemens for the Albtal Traffic Company (AVG) for use in the rail Karlsruhe was made. It is a further development of the vehicle type GT8-100C / 2S .
construction
technology
The GT8-100D / 2S-M is a three-part two-way railcar . It has conventional bogies on the front sides, while the vehicle parts rest on Jakobs bogies in the middle . For the two conventional bogies, two three-phase asynchronous motors with single-axis drives and electronic chopper controls are used. Due to the smaller motors , the floor height and the wheel set distance could be reduced compared to the GT8-100C / 2S.
The GT8-100D / 2S-M is a further development of the GT8-100C / 2S and differs mechanically in terms of shape and floor height. With the older GT8-100C / 2S, the angular shape of the GT6-80C was adopted and adapted to the design as a bidirectional car. The GT8-100D / 2S-M took up the trend towards low-floor vehicles and lowered the vehicle floor between the bogies in the end sections to the middle floor level (63 cm) and in the entrance area to 55 cm, so that stepless access to 55 cm high platforms is possible. This also made it easier to get on at 76 cm or 38 cm high platforms, as only one step has to be overcome. The high-floor areas above the bogies and in the middle of the vehicle can be reached via a step. The medium-floor design required a change in the car bodies with lower side windows. The front section has been revised and made more rounded.
As a two-system car , the railcar has the necessary technical equipment to operate both under the overhead tram line with 750 V DC voltage and under the railway contact line with 15 kV 16.7 Hz AC voltage . These devices are located on the roof of the car and under the floor of the middle section of the vehicle and, like the GT8-100C / 2S, consist of a single-arm pantograph suitable for both systems , a power system test system, a pneumatic system selector switch, a transformer and a rectifier with smoothing throttle. The transition between the two power systems takes place automatically and goes unnoticed by the passenger. Regeneration through the recuperation brake is only possible with 750 volts DC voltage.
Admission
Like their predecessor GT8-100C / 2S, the vehicles are designed for use in accordance with BOStrab in the tram network of the Karlsruhe transport company and for use in the railway network in accordance with EBO . They have wheels with a mixed tire profile that is suitable for both tram and rail traffic. They also have a safety driving circuit (SiFa), punctual train control for use in the railway network and inductive point control for traffic in the tram network .
Since the light rail vehicles are very light compared to conventional railroad cars and only have a reduced longitudinal stiffness (600 kN instead of 1500 kN ), for safety reasons they may only be used on EBO routes, on which a maximum speed of 160 km / h applies. As an additional safeguard, the ends of the railcars are reinforced at the level of the buffers of conventional railway vehicles. The weaker passive safety is compensated for by the stronger active safety (quick-acting brake).
Painting
The vehicles were delivered with a yellow body, dark gray ribbon windows and red decorative lines on the roof edge and on the apron.
Instead, the bistro railcars were given a white body with a red center section. Car 880 was given a light blue color scheme designed by James Rizzi at the initiative of the city of Heilbronn .
Some vehicles were repainted in the current color scheme of the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft . The vehicle is three-colored - with a car body in the color dahlia yellow, a signal red apron and a black window band.
history
delivery
The multiple units each cost around € 2.7 million.
The railcars 845 to 848 and 868 to 922 were given roof edge glazing in the middle section, while the railcars 845 to 848 also had bistro equipment and a toilet . In 2009, the toilet of railcar 845 was removed after the vehicle derailed on January 25, 2008 in Baden-Baden . The motor coaches 900 to 922 were also equipped with a toilet and have screwed-in instead of glued-in side windows.

Conversions
- 837–922: Installation of ticket machines, thus one seat less
- 837–922: Installation of surveillance cameras
- 845: Removal of the bistro compartment and toilet
- 845–848: Special white paint (RegioBistro); 846 got a new paint scheme
- 880: special paintwork blue (Rizzi-Bahn)
- 915: Special green paint (25 years of the Bretten tram)
- Installation LED - matrix displays on the front sides and the car body pages (since 2014)
- 837, 846, 856, 862, 865, 866, 875, 877, 882, 888, 894, 895, 898, 904, 908 got the new paint scheme (as of June 19, 2014)
- 845, 846 (Bistro), 875, 884, 888, 892, 911: Remove the skylight windows
- Seats in accordance with fire protection regulations DIN EN 45545-2 in a new color scheme (currently 853, 890 and 896)
In order to use the new inner city tunnel in Karlsruhe (combined solution ), the vehicles must be converted to comply with the regulations for such tunnels. Among other things, materials of a different fire protection class must be used for this. On the occasion, the visual design of the interior is adapted to the current color scheme. In addition, a fire alarm system, passenger emergency call stations and an emergency brake override must be installed. The conversion costs around € 140,000 per multiple unit.
commitment
The vehicles run as solo cars, in double traction and on some EBO route sections also in triple traction in mixed operation with the GT8-100C / 2S . There is no fixed assignment of the wagons to individual light rail lines. Only the trains of the Murgtalbahn , which travel the steep section between Baiersbronn and Freudenstadt, are made up exclusively of the GT8-100D / 2S-M, as only these vehicles are approved for steep sections . As planned, they will not be used on lines S41 and S42 of the Heilbronn Stadtbahn. They are serviced in the depots of the VBK and AVG as well as in the joint main workshop at the Karlsruhe Rheinhafen.
In 2004, some GT8-100D / 2S-M wagons drove in double units on the MainLinie light rail line in the Rhine-Main area between Hanau Hbf , Frankfurt (Main) airport regional train station and Rüsselsheim Opel works on behalf of the Hanau tram . These trains ran on schedule with the managed RegioBistro .
