construction

technology

The GT8-70D / N is a 39.68 m long and 2.65 m wide, eight-axle tram multiple unit. It has five passenger doors and one driver's door. The car body consists of five parts, which can be walked on continuously and which rest on two conventional motor bogies at the ends. A chassis with idler wheels is attached to each of the two articulated carts and the middle segment is designed as a litter . The four axles of the outer bogies will each be driven by a 127 kW motor. The vehicles reach a top speed of 80 km / h. A Scharfenberg coupling is used to couple the 49.2 t wagons . This enables the vehicles to run in double traction with the GT6-70D / N vehicles.

During the year 2015, were in all cars roll band indicator on the front by orange LED - matrix displays replaced.

inner space

Interior of a vehicle

There are a total of 119 full-size seats in the 2 + 2 compartment form and an additional four folding seats in the two multi-purpose areas at the front doors. In addition, if the folding seats are not in use, there is standing room for 121. To display the next stop red-line serve LED - matrix displays at the ends and the middle of the vehicle. A ticket machine is installed in the middle of the vehicle . The entire vehicle interior is monitored with cameras on every tram .

Coloring

The GT8-70D / N were painted in the same paint as the GT6-70D / N. The vehicles are three-colored - with a car body in the color yellow , an anthracite apron and window band and a signal red stripe above the window band.

Car 303 was the only car that was repainted in the current color scheme of the Karlsruhe transport company after an accident in 2013. The vehicle is three-colored - with a car body in the color dahlia yellow , a signal red apron and a black window band.

history

delivery

The six-axle GT6-70D / N low-floor wagons soon proved to be too small for some lines. That is why the Karlsruhe transport company ordered additional eight-axle low-floor wagons at the beginning of 1997, 25 of which were put into operation between 1999 and 2003. The new cars are ten meters longer than the existing GT6-70D / N trams and have two more vehicle parts, and thus one more door.

In 1999 the first finished tram arrived at the depot West. The first 20 low-floor cars 301-320 were put into operation in 1999. The five remaining low-floor trams were delivered and put into operation in 2003.

The vehicles were delivered in three series up to 2003: The last series 321-325 differs through the screwed-in side windows. They belong to the AVG.

  • 301–325 - Installation of ticket machines, thus two fewer seats
  • 301–325 - have been given a cover for the lower rear window to prevent rubbish deposits.
  • Conversion for tunnel operation, installation of route cameras, fire alarms, bridging emergency brakes (since 2013) and new red seats that are flame retardant. (currently 303, 304, 305,306, 307, 309, 311, 315, 319 and 322)

commitment

The trains usually only run on tram line 1, occasionally also on lines 3 and 4 and the city railroad line S2 of the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn from Rheinstetten to Spöck. Although this route is largely owned by the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft, the VBK operate the light rail line. There, cars from the GT8-70D / N and GT6-70D / N series are used in mixed operation with new NET2012 low-floor trams. In regular operation there are no train sets consisting of two GT8-70D / N in Karlsruhe, as they would be too long at 80 m. For the annual event Das Fest , all courses of line 1 with associations from GT8-70D / N and GT6-70D / N are used.
