The four-axle diesel locomotives of the series 2143 of the ÖBB were built from 1964 to 1977 as light universal locomotives for the non-electrified routes in Austria. The Simmering-Graz-Pauker works delivered a total of 77 locomotives of this series to the ÖBB from the works SGP Floridsdorf and SGP Simmering. The sister locomotive of the 2043 series was built by Jenbacher Werke . Outwardly, both locomotives only differ in terms of the side fan grilles.
technical features
The 2143 series is powered by an SGP twelve-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine with an output of 1115 kW. There is also a train heating generator for supplying cars with electrical power (heating / battery charging) and a diesel auxiliary unit for the compressed air that is required, for example, for starting the diesel engine or the braking system. Each engine can be operated on its own.
The power is transmitted with a turbo transmission from Voith .
The locomotives from numbers 2143.34 to 2143.77 (built between 1972 and 1974) were equipped with multiple controls .
history
With new deliveries of locomotives of the series 2016 (Herkules) , the locomotives of the series 2143 will be superfluous and will be parked as a result. In autumn 2006, however, some 2,143 were still deployed in the Wiener Neustadt area. Since 2020 only a few 2143 have been in use, including the green 040. A few more locomotives are in Wr. Neustadt deposited as a spare parts donor.
Further use
Some locomotives were sold to private transport companies. Stauden-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft mbH, for example, owns the 2143.06, 18 and 21 locomotives that are in use on the Immenstadt – Oberstdorf route in front of the alex trains. The 2143.21 belonged to Wiener Lokalbahnen from 2014 to 2017 . The company RTS Rail Transport Service has purchased four locomotives.
