The Henschel DH 360 series is a three-axle diesel locomotive with rod drive , which was designed for medium-sized shunting and mainline service. 14 of these were built by Henschel in Kassel between 1955 and 1958 .
Many locomotives have been in service for more than 60 years. Some machines will be preserved as exhibits at clubs or museums in 2020. The locomotives are part of the 2nd generation of the Henschel diesel locomotives.
development
From the mid-1950s, the vehicles of the 2nd generation, which outwardly differed from the predecessor design by the central driver's cab, were built. The designation indicated with DH = diesel hydraulic locomotive and 360 = the engine power in hp.
The locomotives were primarily used by large companies for shunting as well as for private railway companies such as the Delmenhorst-Harpstedter Eisenbahn and the Schleswig District Railway for handover services. A locomotive was sold to the Bundeswehr .
technology
The locomotive with a central driver's cab has two differently sized stems for the machine system and auxiliary operations. The front end is slightly inclined, the driver's desks are arranged diagonally, the driver's cab windows are inclined and the retracted access doors are set diagonally.
The water-cooled six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine was available in two versions, either the Henschel-Sulzer 6 LD 22 or the RHS 335 S from Motorenwerke Mannheim . Both made 360 hp at 600 revolutions per minute. The engine is located in the larger engine front. The fluid transmission from Voith is below the driver's cab. It is a three-speed gearbox, consisting of a starting converter and two fluid couplings . Downstream of the hydraulic transmission is a mechanical multi-step transmission for maneuvering / driving gear and a reversing gear. The auxiliary systems such as the battery system are housed in the other front building. The power is transmitted by a rod drive , with the jackshaft directly under the driver's cab.
The locomotive has a multi-release Knorr brake and a pneumatic sanding system. The color of the locomotive was carried out according to customer requirements.
commitment
Delmenhorst-Harpstedter Railway
The locomotive with the serial number 28638 was initially used by the manufacturer as a demonstration locomotive and was rented to various companies. She was z. B. leased to the Marburger Kreisbahn in 1957 when the development of the V 66 was delayed. The locomotive had black and yellow warning stripes on the frame, on the buffer beam and on the front end of the Marburger Kreisbahn, which earned it the nickname Colorado beetle .
After another rental job with the Danish State Railways DSB , the locomotive came to the Delmenhorst-Harpstedter Eisenbahn , where it was given the designation V 6 . The locomotive ran here until the mid-1990s, then it was passed on to the Jan Harpstedt museum railway , where the locomotive is available in 2020.
Schleswig circular path
The locomotive with the serial number 28637 was initially also a demonstration locomotive at Henschel and was loaned to various customers. In 1957 it came to the Schleswig District Railways and was designated as V 34 . The locomotive ran until 1984 and was then handed over to the Paderborn Museum Railway in Paderborn . In 1988 it was handed over to the Weserbergland steam railway , where it was designated as the V 8 and remained in use until the examination deadline in 1991. At the beginning of the 2000s the locomotive was passed on to the railway club in Aschersleben .
armed forces
The locomotive with the serial number 28640 was sold to the Bundeswehr in 1956. It was used in various ammunition and equipment depots until it was parked in Zeithain in 2004 . It was then taken over by the Military History Museum in Dresden and is located in the Westerburg adventure station .
