Buckower Kleinbahn late 1970s-early 1980s - Höhe Waldsieversdorf (old sports field)

Two different generations of electric multiple units are run under the name Buckower Kleinbahn No. 1 to 3 : on the one hand the original railcars from 1930, on the other hand the so-called reconstructions from 1980.

history

After the narrow-gauge Buckower Kleinbahn was no longer able to cope with the excursion traffic, it was decided to convert the route to standard gauge . Due to the efficiency of the electric drive, it was decided to electrification with 800 V direct current and catenary. In 1929, construction work began with ongoing operations, and electrical operation with the new railcars began on May 15, 1930.

The Hannoversche Waggonfabrik AG (HAWA) delivered three railcars equipped with Tatzlager motors and three matching sidecars, which differed only in the lack of pantographs and drives. Each car had 50 seats. The electrical equipment came from AEG .

After the takeover by the DR, the railcars were grouped into the ET 188.5 series . The railcar No. 1 (ET 188 501) was equipped with a luggage compartment, which reduced the number of seats to 40.

In 1945 sidecar 3 (EB 13) was withdrawn from the track and used elsewhere as VB 140 603.

After the train was subordinated to the Berlin S-Bahn in 1950 , it also took over the maintenance of the vehicles in the Raw Schöneweide .

In 1978, railcar 2 (ET 188 502) was converted into a control car, the former sidecar 3 returned to its home route as 190 852-4 and was renamed 279 006-1.

Redrawing

With the introduction of EDP numbers, the ET 188.5 series became the 279 series, the vehicles were numbered consecutively:

  • Railcar 1 (ex ET 188 501) became 279 001-2, the associated trailer 1 (ex EB 11, ex EB 188 501) became 279 002-0
  • Railcar 2 (ex ET 188 502) became 279 003-8, the associated trailer 2 (ex EB 12, ex EB 188 502) became 279 004-6
  • Railcar 3 (ex ET 188 503) became 279 005-3, the associated trailer 3 (ex EB 13, ex VB 140 603) became 279 006-1

When the old vehicles no longer met the requirements and problems arose with the supply of spare parts, the decision was made to redesign. Since new railcars were also required for the flat route of the Oberweißbacher Bergbahn , a new type of vehicle was designed under the designation BR 279.2 in Raw Schöneweide . Only the external dimensions differ for Buckow and Oberweißbach . Since the modernization of the S-Bahn trains from the 275 series ( Stadtbahner ) to the 276.1 series also took place in the Raw Schöneweide, their components could be used in the design of the car body . Because of the height of the platform on the Buckow route, this was not possible with the doors. The double folding doors known from the Halberstadt center entry car were used. Driving switches, motors, resistors and pantographs, like other components, come from Gotha type trams , which were undergoing major repairs in the Schöneweide district at that time. Therefore, in 1981 the contact wire voltage had to be reduced from 800 V to the usual tram contact wire voltage of 600 V.

Since the task list of the RGW the construction of new rail cars was not provided by the GDR, the new buildings were officially reconstruction referred that the features have been transferred to Schöneweide and scrapped there, just some equipment components of the old car and the car numbers were used.

Chronology of the reconstructions

  • June 15, 1981 Official commissioning of the reconstructed railcar 279 001 and the control car 279 002
  • June 30, 1981 Reconstruction of control car 279 006 completed
  • July 30, 1981 Reconstruction of control car 279 004 completed
  • November 1981 Reconstruction of railcar 279 005

Redrawing

Sidecar 879 603

When the DB numbering system was adopted, the vehicles were redrawn:

  • Railcar 1 (ex 279 001) became 479 601, the associated trailer 1 (ex 279 002) became 879 601.
  • Railcar 2 (ex 279 003) became 479 602, the associated trailer 2 (ex 279 004) became 879 602.
  • Railcar 3 (ex 279 005) became 479 603, the associated trailer 3 (ex 279 006) became 879 603.

Whereabouts

The three railcars are now owned by the Märkische Schweiz (EVMS) railway association, which operates the Buckower Kleinbahn as a museum railway.
