Bosa is an Italian municipality with 7806 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Oristano in western Sardinia . It is located about two kilometers from the sea in a wide valley on the Temo River and is part of the I borghi più belli d'Italia (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy) association.

The Roman Bosa was originally located further upstream at a hypothetical Phoenician settlement near the church of San Pietro extra muros . The Roman city thrived thanks to the port of Terrida (Bosa Marina), which the Sa Sea mountain protects from the mistral . At that time the mouth of the Temo was in front of the Isola Rossa, which was not yet connected to the mainland.

Attractions

The old town with its street canyons and tall houses is dominated by the ruins of the "Castello Malaspina" from the 12th century. The left bank of the Temo line is lined with old tanner's houses, which are slowly falling into disrepair and some are still waiting for new use. In addition to the streets, churches and squares of the city, the church “San Pietro extra muros” from 1073 is well worth seeing.

Olive groves and vineyards characterize the mountainous surrounding area. The Malvasia di Bosa is one of the most famous Sardinian wines .

Some of the last griffon vultures in Sardinia can be seen near Bosa .

The suburb of Bosa Marina is by the sea, a popular beach on the Sardinian west coast. From here, goes in the summer as a tourist offer on the railway line Macomer-Bosa the narrow gauge train " Trenino Verde ".
