Magomadas ( Sardinian : Magumadas ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) in the province of Oristano with 629 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in western Sardinia . The municipality is located about 40 kilometers north-northwest of Oristano on the Mediterranean Sea.
history
Magomadas is believed to be a Phoenician foundation. The place name Macomades occurred several times in ancient North Africa. In Hebrew , which of all modern Semitic languages is closest to Phoenician, corresponds the expression maqom ħadaš ("new place").
