Samugheo is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2926 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Oristano in Sardinia . The municipality is located about 30 kilometers east-northeast of Oristano in the Brabaxianna and borders directly on the province of Nuoro .

history

The name of the municipality comes from the Sardinian takeover of Saint Michael (Italian San Michele ). The area was already settled by Phoenicians and Romans in antiquity, but the location can be proven for the first time in the documents of the judicial district of Arborea .

economy

Samugheo is a center of Sardinian carpet production. The municipality's coat of arms also shows a loom.

Parish partnership

Samugheo has had an intra-Italian partnership with the municipality of Tricarico in the province of Matera since 2011 .
