Attractions

Parish church

In the parish church of the small rural community is the altar "Retablo di San Paolo" from 1501, the only signed and dated work by Lorenzo Cavaro from Stampace. The signature is: En l'any MDI es pintada feta la dit retaulu per mas de mestal Lores Cavaro de stampas . Lorenzo and especially his son Pietro Cavaro are considered to be the founders of the Stampace school , named after the district of the capital Cagliari where their studios were located. Pietro Cavaro, who worked around 1508–1537, influenced painting in Sardinia in the 16th century and is considered by many art critics to be the greatest Sardinian painter.

Image program
  • In the pessa (middle part) the crucifixion and below the enthroned Madonna is depicted, on the left and right panels, each facing opposite, the Annunciation Angel and the Annunziata as well as Peter and Paul.
  • In the nine-part predella , the three middle panels of which form the tabernacle (from left to right): Saint Catherine of Alexandria, Saint George (on horseback), Saint Sebastian, the Virgin of Sorrows (Addolorata), Christ (Pietà), the saints Johannes, Pantaleon, Julius (on horseback) and Lucia.

museum

In the place is the "Museo Turcus e More" which has the raids of the Turks and Moors on the topic.

Surroundings

To the southeast, not far from Gonnostramatza, in the parish church of Lunamatrona , which is huge by rural standards , is the altar "Retablo di Santa Maria", placed in the 1st side chapel on the right; probably a work by Antioco Mainas. The picture program is similar to the reredos of Gonnostramatza, only Peter and Paul were banished to the simpler, five-part predella and replaced by John the Baptist and the Archangel Michael. Maina's naive imitation of a Raphael Madonna in the central picture is refreshing.
