The Macomer – Bosa railway is a narrow-gauge branch line in Sardinia , which is now operated by the Ferrovie della Sardegna in the excursion service of Trenino Verde .
history
On December 26, 1888, the Strade Ferrate Secondarie della Sardegna (SFSS) was able to continue train traffic from Bosa via Macomer to Nuoro . In 1921, the Ferrovie Complementari della Sardegna (FCS) took over operations on the railway line after the SFSS had been dissolved. In order to save costs, diesel railcars were mainly used as early as 1930 . For financial reasons, the regular rail traffic between Macomer and Tresnuraghes was discontinued in 1982 , the FCS had been under provisional administration by the state here for several years. A few years later, the last two Sardinian railway companies (with the exception of the state-owned FS ) merged to form the Ferrovie della Sardegna . However, this could not prevent that on May 15, 1995 the traffic between Bosa Marina and Tresnuraghes had to be stopped.
In June 1997 the excursion traffic of the "Trenino Verde" was resumed on the weekends.
Route
The route starts in Macomer, opposite the FS State Railway Station. The landscape is made up of pasture land bordered by dry stone walls and guarded by nuraghi , such as the well-preserved Nuraghe Succoronis, near the railway line. The highest point of the route is at the Bara stop (537 m) and from here it goes slowly downhill. The next stop is the Cistercian Abbey of Santa Maria di Corte . The trip leads along the Furrighesu stream, a tributary of the Temo, to the Sindia stop. This is where the Planargia begins . The land is flat and cultivated, the villages are close together. Then you come to the Tinnura station - the village is known for its basketry from affodilla, reeds and willow cane and for its wines. The breakpoint is Tresnuraghes , the place shares with Magomadas . At the Nigolosue stop you have a wide view of the sea. The route leads into a valley where Malvasia is grown. The line describes another curve and turns towards the sea. After the Modolo station, the train goes towards the beach of Turas, changes direction and then runs parallel to the coast, a few meters from the water. After a short time you will reach the Bosa Marina stop at the mouth of the Temo.
