The Macomer – Nuoro line is a narrow-gauge branch line in Sardinia . The railway line opened in 1889 is now operated by Ferrovie della Sardegna (FdS) .
history
The Strade Ferrate Secondarie della Sardegna (SFSS) was able to put the 58-kilometer-long railway line to Nuoro into operation in several sections : From Macomer to Tirso on December 26, 1888, to Orotelli on January 26, 1889 and to Nuoro on February 6, 1889. After the SFSS got into economic difficulties, the Ferrovie Complementari della Sardegna (FCS) took over the railway operations in 1921. Diesel railcars were predominantly used as early as 1930 .
After the FCS came under state administration in 1971, the new railway company FdS was established in 1989. Even today, this route is still operated in the regular scheduled service. Six pairs of trains arrive at the terminus in Nuoro every day.
