Sardinia

The SS 131 Carlo Felice is the most important and longest state road in Sardinia . It leads from the regional capital Cagliari in the south via Oristano and Macomer to Sassari and on to Porto Torres in the north of the island. It is a motorway-like road operated by the ANAS , which is part of Europastraße 25 .

The SS 131 is named after King Karl Felix of Sardinia-Piedmont , under whose rule it was planned and built by the engineer Carbonazzi from 1821. It follows the course of the old Roman road from Turris Libisonis (Porto Torres) to Caralis (Cagliari). The repeated expansion and modernization work has meant that the current state road no longer has much in common with the former Strada Reale (Königsstraße) or the former Roman road.

At Abbasanta , near Oristano, the highway-like Strada Statale 131 Diramazione Centrale Nuorese branches off the SS 131 , which leads to Nuoro and Olbia in northeastern Sardinia. This route is 144 kilometers long.

There are no motorways in Sardinia, only motorway-like state roads. Road tolls are not charged in Sardinia.
