Cassius Marcellus Coolidge

Cassius Marcellus Coolidge (born September 18, 1844 in Antwerp , New York , † January 13, 1934 in New York City , New York) was an American painter. He became known for his painting series “ Dogs Playing Poker ” , which resulted from an advertising campaign for a cigar company .

On February 15, 2005, two of his works A Bold Bluff and Waterloo: Two were auctioned at Doyle auction house in New York. The hammer price was $ 590,400. These auction proceeds represent a record for Coolidge's works.

Private

Coolidge married Gertrude Kimmell (born October 17, 1883, † August 4, 1977) at the age of 64 in 1909, their daughter Marcella was born in 1910. Coolidge died on January 13, 1934 in New York City .
