The Strada Statale 31 (SS31) is an Italian State Street, 1928 between Vercelli and SS10 at Alessandria has been set. It goes back to the 1923 established Strada nazionale 36 (southern part - northern part became the SS32 ). Because of her guided tour through the historical Monferrato area she received the title del Monferrato . Its length is 53 kilometers. In 2001 it became the regional road for the Piedmont region , and in 2008 it became a provincial road. While it historically branched off from the SS1 in the city center of Vercelli, it now runs south and west around Vercelli to the SP11, which then continues around the place as the northern bypass of Vercelli. It also runs east of Stroppiana and east of Villanova Monferrato , San Salvatore Monferrato and Castelletto Monferrato .

In the course of its existence, the SS31 was given a side branch SS31bis, which branched off north of Casale Monferrato and ran parallel to the Po, west of the SS11 at Chivasso . Today it bears the number SP31bis.
