Regions :

The SS 309 Romea is a state road in northeast Italy that runs from Venice to Ravenna . It is located in the Veneto and Emilia-Romagna regions . The road laid down in 1962 is 126.77 km long and part of Europastraße 55 .

State of development

The full length of today's road is two-lane.

However, there are initial plans on the part of ANAS to expand the entire route as a superstrada (expressway). The aim is to better connect north-east Italy with the greater Rome area and create a continuous motorway-like, completely toll-free connection from Mestre to Civitavecchia .

Route

The state road starts in Marghera , an industrial suburb of Venice, where it branches off the A57 motorway and then runs along the Venice lagoon to Codevigo , where it meets the SS 516 .

The further course of the route then leads to Chioggia , where it crosses the lagoon on a bridge and then turns sharply south and then reaches the Po Delta, where it runs through the nature park of the same name . The places in the Po Delta are Porto Viro and Porto Tolle . It then crosses the regional border between Veneto and Emilia-Romagna. Then it runs through flat land to the south, at Comacchio it meets the A13 motorway slip road . Then it leads through the below sea level Valli di Comacchio . The well-known seaside resorts Lido di Spina and Isola di Albarella are on the seaside . The route then leads a little west to Ravenna, where it ends.

tourism

The Strada Romea leads past numerous natural beauties on its route, such as the Po Delta , the Valli di Comacchio and the Po Valley . In Emilia-Romagna there are also some tourist spots next to the route.
