The Isola di Albarella is an island in the Italian region of Veneto . It is located about 40 km south of Venice near the Po Delta on the Adriatic Sea .

geography

The island of Albarella belongs to the municipality of Rosolina in the province of Rovigo . It belongs to the Venetian part of the Po Delta Natural Park and is part of the historical Polesine landscape . It is 5 km long and 1.5 km wide. The area is 5.28 km², on which 152 people lived according to the 2001 census. It was created by the deposits that the Po carries with it during floods.

vegetation

The vegetation of the Isola di Albarella is part of the Mediterranean maquis . These include the 150 species of the approx. 2 million trees, including the maritime pine (Pinus pinaster) and the eponymous silver poplar (Populus alba).

Infrastructure

The Isola di Albarella can be reached via a causeway , but access is only allowed to authorized persons as it is privately owned. The development into a luxury resort began as early as the 1960s. A further expansion with hotels, restaurants, sports facilities as well as holiday homes and apartments took place from the 1990s, after the Marcegaglia group bought the island.
