The Isili – Villacidro railway was a narrow-gauge branch line in Sardinia . The railway line ran from the small town of Isili to Villacidro, 70 kilometers away .
history
The Sardinian railway company Ferrovie Complementari della Sardegna was able to start rail traffic between Isili and Villacidro on June 21, 1915. The line branched off at the small suburban train station Sarcidano from the Isili – Sorgono line of the Strade Ferrate Secondarie della Sardegna and headed west to Villacidro, where the Cagliari – Golfo Aranci line of the state Ferrovie dello Stato was crossed at the Sanluri Stato station .
In the middle of the last century, rail traffic became increasingly deficit, so that on July 1, 1956 - after almost exactly 41 years - the line was closed. The tracks have now been dismantled and since 1991 the old railway line has been partially converted into a cycle path.
