The Monti – Tempio Pausania railway was a narrow-gauge branch line in Sardinia . The railway line, which opened in 1888, was largely closed in 1958.
history
On February 15, 1888, the Strade Ferrate Secondarie della Sardegna (SFSS) began operating between Monti and Tempio Pausania. Three decades later, the SFSS had big problems, were dissolved in 1921 and the Ferrovie Complementari della Sardegna (FCS) took over the railroad traffic. Another railway company, the Società anonima Ferrovie Settentrionali Sarde (SFSS) , was able to open the branching lines Sassari - Tempio Pausania on November 16, 1931 and Luras - Palau on January 18, 1932 and take up the continuous traffic Sassari - Palau . Tempio had now become a railway junction with a new large station. However, this railway company was also out of luck and the Strade Ferrate Sarde (SFS) took over this service as early as 1933.
From 1941 the Monti – Tempio railway line and the Sassari – Alghero railway line were taken over by SFS. This created a uniform, narrow-gauge network in northern Sardinia. However, this could not stop the downturn and on July 21, 1958, the rail traffic from Monti to Tempio was stopped. Only a few kilometers between Luras and Tempio are still used today, meanwhile by Ferrovie della Sardegna (FdS), founded in 1989, in the excursion traffic of the Trenino Verde .
