The Villamar – Ales railway was a narrow-gauge branch line of the Isili – Villacidro railway in Sardinia .
history
The Sardinian railway company Ferrovie Complementari della Sardegna was able to start rail traffic between Isili and Villacidro on June 21, 1915 . From this, the 26-kilometer route to Ales branched off northwards in Villamar .
From 1926 onwards there were repeated discussions about a merger with Ferrovie Meridionali Sarde , in order to possibly establish a connection between Villacidro and Siliqua and to make operations more efficient. In the middle of the 19th century, rail traffic became increasingly deficit, so that on July 1, 1956 - after almost exactly 41 years - the line was closed. These were the first shutdowns of the Sardinian rail network. The tracks have since been dismantled.
