Sarcidano

The Sarcidano is a plateau in the center of Sardinia . It lies between the Campidano , the Marmilla and the Barbagia . The largest places are Laconi in the north, Escalaplano in the east and Isili in the south. In the region lie the large dams Lago del Flumendosa , Lago del Mulargia and the smaller Riu San Sebastiano. The Giara di Gesturi is located in the west, on the border with the Marmilla.

In Sarcidano there are numerous archaeological sites, such as the fountain sanctuary Santa Vittoria and the nuraghi ( Arrubiu and Is Paras ). In Nurri and Orroli, millstones are made from local basalt .

The Sarcidano station is on the narrow gauge - railway Isili-Sorgono . It is approached by Trenino Verde in the summer months .

The semi-wild Sarcidano horses on the Altopiano del Sarcidano in the province of Oristano belong to the 15 indigenous horse "breeds of limited distribution" recognized by the AIA .
