Giara di Gesturi
The Giara di Gesturi ( sard . : Sa Jara Manna) is a plateau in Sardinia . The 550 m high, 43 km² basalt plateau is almost flat, around 12 km long and an average of 5 km wide. It is located near Gesturi in the interior of Sardinia on the border between the Marmilla and Sarcidano . Noteworthy elevations are the volcanic cones Zepparedda (600 m) (crater opening can still be seen) and Zeppara Manna (580 m). In winter, large areas of water form on the impermeable basalt.
Macchia and cork oaks are the defining flora of the nature reserve . Here are wild cats , martens , sheep and feral pigs as well as around 600 small stature wild horses before. The wingless locust species Paramogoplistes novaki occurs only on the island of Hvar in Croatia and on Mount Parnassus .
The Protonuraghe Brunku Madagui (or Madìli) and about 20 other nuraghi on the edge of the plateau date from the Bronze Age. The Giara going can be reached from Gesturi, Setzu and Tuili.
