The Campidano ( Sardinian Campidanu ) is a 110 km long and 12 to 25 km wide lowland strip of almost 2500 km², which connects the gulfs of Oristano and Cagliari in the southwest of Sardinia . The term Campidano means wide plain in Sardinian . Administratively, the Campidano is part of the three provinces of Oristano, Medio Campidano and Cagliari.

The Campidano plain is extremely fertile: Already in the times of the Phoenicians and the Romans , intensive grain and wine cultivation was practiced here.

In the northeastern part of the plain, around the city of Oristano , rice cultivation also plays an important role. In the south of the plain is the island's capital, Cagliari .

The most common variant of the Sardinian language is named after the Campidano , the Campidanese .
