Cabuabbas Monastery (Santa Maria di Cabuabbas), now known as Santa Maria di Corte, is a former Cistercian abbey in Sardinia , Italy . It is located around four kilometers east of Sindia in the province of Nuoro and is a stop on the Trenino Verde on the Macomer – Bosa railway line .
history
The monastery, named “caput aquae” according to some sources, was founded by Gonario II, the judge (prince) of the Torres judiciary , who later entered the Clairvaux monastery as a monk himself . The mother monastery was the primary abbey of Clairvaux Monastery, which sent a convent in 1149. Gonario donated large lands to the monastery in the area around Sindia, which is characterized by cattle pastures. The monks built a large church in the Romanesque style. The monastery flourished in its first centuries but ran into trouble with the Aragonese occupation of the island. In 1458 his property was transferred to the Bishop of Bosa .
Plant and buildings
Soon after 1458 the complex became ruinous and some of the stones were removed. The right arm of the transept, later set up as a sacred space, with two side chapels, each with a monoforic window, has been preserved from the originally cross-shaped church with a three-aisled nave. The choir and sacristy , which are not part of the sacred space, have also been preserved . On the other hand, only the foundations of the nave and the enclosed building south of the church have survived.
