Forsvik is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Västra Götalands län and the historic province of Västergötland . It is located at the transition from Lake Viken to Bottensjö about nine kilometers northwest of Karlsborg in the municipality of Karlsborg .
history
Forsvik is a tourist town . Forsviks Bruk Industrial Museum describes the 600-year history of the place. Mills, sawmills and forges were built on the rapids between the two lakes early on. In the second half of the 19th century Forsvik became one of the most important industrial centers in the region.
Work on the Göta Canal began in Forsvik around 1810 . The oldest and highest lock on the canal is in Forsvik. An iron lifting bridge from the same year crossed the canal. The bridge, which has not been in use since 1956, is the oldest iron bridge in Sweden and is lowered once a year.
