Göteborgs och Bohus län

Göteborgs och Bohus län was a Swedish province that existed until 1998. In 1998 the province with the provinces Skaraborgs län and Älvsborgs län in the newly established province Västra Götalands län . The then residential city was Gothenburg , with part of the administration also being in Uddevalla . The Län was assigned the letter ( länsbokstav ) O, which is now used by Västra Götalands län.

In the north it borders on the Fylke Østfold in Norway , there partly separated by the Svinesund and the Idefjord . In the east it borders on the historic provinces of Dalsland and Västergötland and in the south on Halland . The three largest islands in the adjacent Kattegat to the west are Orust , Hisingen and Tjörn .

history

The boundaries up to 1998 largely coincided with those drawn during the establishment at the end of the 17th century. In 1680 Bohuslän was merged with the city of Gothenburg and the surrounding Harden Sävedal, Askim and Östra Hising and was given the new name Göteborgs och Bohus län two years later.
