Våler is a Norwegian municipality in the province ( Fylke ) Viken . It has 5736 inhabitants (February 27, 2020).
geography
Våler is east of Moss . In the south lies the lake Innsjø . The municipality includes the places Kirkebygden , Våk and Svinndal . The highest point of the community is at 225 moh. the Taraldrudåsen in the northeast.
history
The parish arose on January 1, 1838 from the parish Vaaler . Since then the boundaries of the municipality have not been changed.
Until December 31, 2019, the municipality belonged to the former Fylke Østfold , which was transferred to the newly created province of Viken as part of the regional reform in Norway .
economy
Agriculture in the municipality is characterized by the cultivation of grain. In 2015, 35,700 m³ of wood were felled, making forestry an important part of the municipality's economy. Industry is not well represented, only around five percent of jobs in Våler in 2015 were industrial jobs. Around 55% of jobs were in public administration and in the service sector. Around 74% of employees commuted to work outside of Våler in 2015, mainly in Moss, Sarpsborg and Fredrikstad .

The municipality's official coat of arms since 1986 is divided into two parts. The left field shows a silver lily on a blue background. Yellow rafters can be seen on the right.
