Miran Zupančič (born November 11, 1989 ) is a Slovenian ski jumper .

Career

Zupančič made his international debut at the FIS Junior Jumping in March 2003 in Planica . In July he made his debut in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup while jumping in Velenje . With 35th place he only just missed the points. After a two-year international break, Zupančič started after several FIS races from January 2006 in Ljubno in the FIS Cup . Until 2008 he tried to assert himself in this competition, but could not achieve any top placements. It was not until 2008 in Szczyrk that he achieved a top ranking for the first time with 5th place. At the Slovenian Ski Jumping Championships in 2009 he won silver with the team and reached 27th place in the individual. A year later at the Slovenian Ski Jumping Championships 2010 he was only 47th in the individual and only achieved tenth place with the team.

After he reached fifth place in the FIS Cup in Kranj on February 5, 2012 , he was given the opportunity to jump again in the Continental Cup. In October of the same year he won the bronze medal in the mixed team at the Slovenian Ski Jumping Championships 2012 . In the third competition of the 2012/13 season in Engelberg he reached the points in the Continental Cup for the first time. On January 11, 2013 in Sapporo , he achieved a top 10 position for the first time with fifth place, before he jumped just past the podium a day later with fourth place. On January 13, Zupančič was finally able to reach the podium on the Ōkurayama hill and jumped to third place.

After changing results in the Continental Cup, he started on February 1, 2013 in Harrachov for the first time in a qualification for a jumping in the Ski Jumping World Cup . In the qualification, a good 37th, he missed the second round in jumping with 39th place. At the Slovenian Ski Jumping Championships 2013 on February 5, 2013 Zupančič jumped from the individual hill to 11th place and reached seventh place in the team competition. In the qualification for the following World Cup in Willingen he also qualified as before in Harrachov, but the World Cup itself had to be canceled due to difficult wind conditions.

The 2014/15 season was the most successful for Zupančič so far. After a second place in Engelberg in December 2014, he celebrated his first Continental Cup victory in Sapporo in January 2015. With further top 10 results and his participation in almost every competition, he won third place in the overall standings with a total of 607 points, his best season result so far. Thanks to these good results, he was allowed to start again in the World Cup for the first time in a long time, but he was unable to qualify for the competition at the World Cup season finale in Planica.

In August 2017, after a first and a third place in three competitions, Zupančič came second in the overall ranking of the 2017 Beskydy Tour, which was held for the first time .
