Roberto Cecon (born December 28, 1971 in Gemona ) is a former Italian ski jumper and ski jumping coach. He celebrated a total of six World Cup victories in his career . With nine national titles between 1988 and 2001 he is the most successful jumper at Italian championships. He is one of only eight jumpers who were able to win a World Cup competition in both the parallel style and the V-style .

Career

Cecon started ski jumping at the age of six. He made his World Cup debut in 1987 at the age of sixteen. He started for the sports group of the Finanzwacht (Gruppo sportivo Fiamme Gialle). At the beginning of his career, Cecon still jumped in the classic parallel style. At the end of the 1989/90 season he won his first two World Cup competitions, including in front of a home crowd in Predazzo , in this jumping style. In the same year he won the silver medal in the individual competition at the Junior World Championships in Štrbské Pleso . Then he switched to the new V-style - with success.

In 1992 and 1994 he won the bronze medal at the ski flying world championships . In 1994 he achieved four more podium finishes in the World Cup, including a win; in the overall World Cup ranking he was fifth. Cecon experienced his best year as a ski jumper in the following season, 1994/95 : He achieved seven podium finishes, including three wins. In the final World Cup he was second behind Andreas Goldberger .

In the following years he was unable to build on these successes. Only in the last few years of his ski jumping career did he achieve some respectable successes: In summer 2001 he won a jumping of the Summer Grand Prix , and he was sixth at the Ski Flying World Championships in 2002. Cecon competed in his last World Cup competition on March 23, 2003 in Planica .

Since ski jumping is considered a marginal sport in Italy, Cecon was the only representative of his country at many events for many years. Only his compatriot Ivan Lunardi was a serious competitor to him. That is why an Italian team was seldom formed at World Championships and Olympic Games. For the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2003 in Val di Fiemme , Italy put on a team with Cecon, but they only achieved tenth place.

Roberto Cecon is married and now lives in Tricesimo . He works as a financial policeman and ski jumping coach. His son Federico (* 1994) is one of the young hopes of Italian ski jumping, son Zeno (* 1990) has since ended his career.
