Cene Prevc [ preu̯t͡s ] (born March 12, 1996 in Kranj ) is a Slovenian ski jumper .
Career
Prevc, who starts for the SK Triglav Kranj club , made his international debut on February 6, 2011 as part of the FIS Cup in his hometown of Kranj . After finishing 15th, the 14-year-old will start in the Alpencup shortly afterwards , where he has already achieved good results. However, he achieved his first podium finishes again in January 2012 in the FIS Cup when he finished second behind compatriot Rok Justin in Predazzo . With these results behind him, he was appointed to the Slovenian squad for the Continental Cup for the first time . After he clearly missed the points on his debut at the Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze in Bischofshofen , he was again downgraded to the third-class competition series. There he was able to convince again, so that he could celebrate his first victory in the FIS Cup in Liberec in February . At the Nordic Ski Games of the OPA 2012 in Kranj, he finished eighth in the junior competition on the middle hill before he was able to win his first medal in the team competition in third place on an international level. He finished the season promisingly in eighth place in the Alpine Cup and by winning the FIS Cup ahead of Rok Justin and Michael Dreher . At the Slovenian Ski Jumping Championships in Kranj in 2012 , he won the bronze medal in the first competition together with Gašper Vodan , Matic Plaznik and Matej Dobovšek and the championship title in the second team competition together with Robert Kranjec , Peter Prevc and Dejan Judež .
Prevc started at the beginning of July at the Continental Cup jumping competition in their home town of Kranj in the summer of 2012, but again clearly missed points. His first appearances in the 2012/13 Alpine Cup, where he achieved his first Alpine Cup victory on September 1st, were different. He then competed again in the Continental Cup at Lysgårdsbakken in Lillehammer , where he surprisingly came second behind Wolfgang Loitzl and was thus on the podium in the second highest ski jumping competition series for the first time. At the beginning of winter he presented himself in top form in the Alpencup and dominated his age group on the Toni-Seelos-Olympiaschanze in Seefeld with two victories. With two top 10 placements at the Continental Cup in Engelberg , he recommended himself for the Four Hills Tournament 2012/13 , but was initially not part of the Slovenian team. However, he replaced Tomaž Naglič , so that Prevc tried in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen for the first time in the qualification for a World Cup , but was unsuccessful. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2013 , he succeeded a few weeks later in winning the gold medal in team jumping together with Anže Semenič , Ernest Prišlič and Jaka Hvala . In the individual competition he was eleventh. Also at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2013 in Râșnov , Romania , he won gold in the team competition from Trambulina Valea Cărbunării , this time together with Nejc Seretinek , Florjan Jelovčan and Anže Lanišek . He also won the individual competition on the normal hill ahead of his compatriot Lanišek and the Austrian Thomas Hofer , making him the second family winner in this competition after his brother Peter Prevc (2009 in Szczyrk ). In addition, Prevc won silver in mixed team jumping together with Anja Javoršek , Julija Sršen and Anže Lanišek. After gaining more points, Prevc finished the season in 32nd place in the Continental Cup overall ranking and as the winner of the Alpine Cup. In February he had won gold with the team again after 2012 at the Slovenian ski jumping championships in 2013 in Kranj. In the individual jumping he finished ninth when his brother won.
In the 2013/14 season Prevc continued to compete in both the Alpine Cup and the Continental Cup . While he regularly reached the podium in the Alpine Cup, he initially had a harder time in the Continental Cup. Only after the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2014 in Predazzo, where he was ninth in the individual and sixth with the team, Prevc made a leap in performance. He finished second in the Continental Cup competition on March 1st in Falun and was able to confirm this a week later with two third places in Zakopane . Thereupon Prevc got a starting place in the national group for ski flying as part of the World Cup in Planica . There the seventeen-year-old Slovenian reached 16th place straight away, so that he was even nominated for team flying. Together with Nejc Dežman , Robert Kranjec and brother Peter , he finished fifth. Thus Prevc was listed in the overall ranking of four different competition series in the 2013/14 season, so that at the end of winter he was fourth in the Alpine Cup, 22nd in the Continental Cup, 70th in the World Cup and 156th in the FIS Cup. In the summer of 2014 Prevc convinced in the Continental Cup , where he was able to achieve five podium places in six participations. Among them was his first victory in the Malinka competition in Wisła . On his debut in the 2014 Grand Prix in Almaty , the highly talented athlete immediately scored his first points. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2015 in Almaty, he was twelfth in the individual and fifth with the team. Since his performance in winter had decreased significantly compared to summer, Prevc had to compete again in the Alpine Cup after the Junior World Championships. There he jumped back into shape with two wins in Kranj . In March 2015 he started again in the World Cup and was able to achieve the points in both Lahti and Trondheim . In the following season, Prevc was not part of the World Cup team, but competed mainly in the Continental Cup . He achieved his best result with third place in Tchaikovsky in mid-March 2016 , which means he was reappointed to the national group at the end of the season of the World Cup in Planica. There Prevc was unsuccessful, so that he had to finish the winter without World Cup points. At the Slovenian Championships in Planica in 2016 , Prevc won the gold medal in the team competition together with his brother Domen , Žiga Jelar and Nejc Dežman.
Prevc had one of his best seasons in 2016/17. After starting the winter with two victories at the Continental Cup weekend in Vikersund in December , Prevc became an integral part of the Slovenian World Cup team . For the first time he had the constant trust of the Slovenian head coach, which he paid back with regular points. In Engelberg, this meant that the three Prevc brothers tried for the first time simultaneously to qualify for a World Cup competition. In addition, he competed for the first time at all stations of the Four Hills Tournament , in which he achieved his best World Cup result to date in eighth place in Oberstdorf . He finished the tour in 24th place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , Prevc was used in the individual jumping on the normal hill, but only finished 43rd. Following his first World Cup participation, he was relegated to the Continental Cup. Rank 40 in the overall World Cup ranking was his best overall ranking. In contrast, the following season was much weaker, so that he sometimes only started in the third-class FIS Cup. At the Slovenian championships in December 2017, he won the bronze medal with the team. In his only second participation in a Continental Cup competition of the season, Prevc took third place in Tchaikovsky, which meant he was nominated again for the national group at the end of the season in Planica a week later. With 39th place, he missed the second round there. Also in winter 2018/19 Prevc initially only started in the FIS Cup, where he was able to draw attention to himself with two victories. In the following months he therefore started again in the Continental Cup , where his best result of the season was 17th place.
In the summer of 2019 Prevc found his form back and achieved consistently good results in the lower-class competition series. At the beginning of winter, Prevc also showed a strong performance with fifth place in the Continental Cup competition in Vikersund , so that he came back into the focus of the World Cup team. Together with his brothers Peter and Domen and with Žiga Jelar, he won the Slovenian championship title again with the team in December 2019. In the singles he was fifth. Due to the poor performance of some of the A-squad Slovenes, Prevc came back to the World Cup for the first time from Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck as part of the Four Hills Tournament 2019/20 . At the Dreikönigs-Jumping in Bischofshofen he reached the points in the World Cup for the first time in two and a half years with 22nd place and presented Slovenia in the second round with his brothers Peter and Domen. In the following weeks Prevc established himself in the World Cup team and consistently reached the points. At the team competition in Lahti , Prevc was part of the Slovenian team for the third time in his career. Together with Timi Zajc , Peter Prevc and Anže Lanišek , he finished jumping behind Germany and thus celebrated his first World Cup podium.
