Balthasar Schneider (born November 27, 1984 in Egg ) is a former Austrian ski jumper .

Career

Schneider made his international debut in the 1999/00 season in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup . In his first season he already achieved 127th place overall with 60 points. In the following season 2000/01 he improved with 97 points to 92nd place overall.

On February 1, 2001 Schneider started as part of the 2001 World Junior Championship in Karpacz, Poland . In the team competition on the normal hill he secured the silver medal behind the Finnish team together with Stefan Kaiser , Manuel Fettner and Florian Liegl , while he finished tenth in the individual. On January 4, 2002 Schneider gave in the framework of the Four Hills Tournament 2001/02 in Innsbruck for the first time to a World Cup operation within the national group. As 41st on the Bergiselschanze and also as 33rd on the Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze in Bischofshofen , Schneider missed his first World Cup points.

At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2002 in Schonach in the Black Forest , he repeated the silver medal success on the normal hill together with Fettner, Christoph Strickner and Christian Nagiller . In the individual competition, Schneider took 19th place. A little later Schneider won his first Continental Cup on the Zaō hill in Yamagata . He was also on the podium in third place in the second competition.

At the Summer Grand Prix 2002 in Lahti , Schneider achieved two good results among the top ten. Despite this success, he started in the Continental Cup for the first time at the beginning of the 2002/03 season before joining the World Cup squad in January after good results in St. Moritz , Engelberg and Seefeld in Tyrol . In his first competition as part of the Four Hills Tournament 2002/03 in Innsbruck he was clearly in the points as 14th. He also reached the points in Hakuba and Sapporo . In February Schneider switched back to the Continental Cup. He immediately jumped back onto the podium in third place in Braunlage . At the beginning of the 2003/04 season Schneider came back to the A-squad and surprisingly achieved a good top 20 position in Kuusamo in 13th place. After he failed to score points in Trondheim a few days later , he went back to the Continental Cup. In February and March 2004, without exception, he achieved placements among the top ten in all competitions, including six podium places.

At the beginning of the 2004/05 season Schneider achieved his next two victories in Rovaniemi . He also climbed the podium in Lahti . After finishing second in the first competition at the Continental Cup in Bischofshofen in January , he achieved his fourth victory in the second competition. Two more years passed with mixed results before his fifth win. With the 2006/07 season Schneider had his most successful season. He secured his individual victories six and seven in Westby and Iron Mountain and, at the end of the season, the overall Continental Cup victory. He then moved back to the World Cup at the end of the season and jumped to a very good 12th place in Oslo.

After Schneider missed good placings at the Summer Grand Prix 2007 , he started again in the Continental Cup in September and finally at the beginning of the 2007/08 season. In the following years Schneider was unable to build on the success of the 2006/07 season. Even with a few starts in the World Cup, he did not make a breakthrough. Schneider did his last jumping in January 2011 in Bischofshofen .

On June 13, 2012, Balthasar Schneider announced the end of his active career. He announced that he would devote himself to promoting his younger brother, Sepp Schneider, and Nordic skiing in Vorarlberg in the future .

He made his furthest jump on March 7, 2004 while ski flying in Vikersund at 216.5 meters. Since then, this distance has been considered the Vorarlberg state record.
