Jurij Tepeš (born February 14, 1989 in Ljubljana ) is a former Slovenian ski jumper .

Career

Jurij Tepeš started ski jumping at the age of six. The first major successes were five medals at junior world championships . In 2005 he won gold in the team and bronze in the individual on the normal hill in Rovaniemi . In 2006 he was able to add two silver medals to these successes in individual and team jumping from the normal hill in Kranj , and at the 2007 Junior World Championships in Planica , where the jumping competitions had been relocated because of the lack of snow in the originally planned venue Tarvisio , he succeeded again with the Slovenian team.

Jurij Tepeš started for the Slovenian team in the Continental Cup in 2002. From 2005 he was used regularly in this competition. He achieved his first podium in the Continental Cup on December 17, 2005 with second place in Harrachov . From January 1, 2006, he regularly jumped for the Slovenian national team in the World Cup . He was able to secure World Cup points for the first time on December 14, 2007 in Villach with a 24th place.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo he won the bronze medal in team jumping on the large hill with the Slovenian national team and thus achieved his greatest success to date. Tepeš celebrated his first victory in the Summer Grand Prix in Almaty on August 30, 2011. In October 2011 he was able to become Slovenian champion for the first time in Kranj . His previous best results in the World Cup he achieved with two eighth places in the jumping in Engelberg on December 17, 2011 and in Zakopane on January 20, 2012. In 2011 the Slovenian ski jumping team was Jurij Tepeš, Robert Kranjec , Peter Prevc and Jernej Damjan voted Team of the Year in Slovenia. On February 19, 2012, he won the team competition with the Slovenian team on the Heini-Klopfer ski jumping hill and not only won the first World Cup of his career. The Slovenian team also won a team competition in the World Cup for the first time.

At the Ski Flying World Championships 2012 in Vikersund , Norway , he won the bronze medal in the team competition with the Slovenian team. On March 3rd, 2012 Jurij Tepeš celebrated a different kind of success when he improved the hill record on the HS97 hill in Lahti from 98.5 m to 101 m. After winning the title on the normal hill in Kranj eight days earlier , Tepeš also won the first-ever Slovenian championship on the large hill on the newly built facility in Planica on October 14, 2012 .

On February 3, 2013 Tepeš was able to secure his first individual podium place in the World Cup with a third place in ski flying on the Čerťák ski flying hill in Harrachov, Czech Republic . He celebrated his first World Cup victory on March 24, 2013 while ski flying on the hill in Planica . Tepeš secured his first podium place on a large hill at the start of the 2013/14 season with a third place in Klingenthal . On March 22, 2015, he achieved his second World Cup victory in Planica. In the second round he received a grade of 20 from the judges five times for his flight at 244 meters , a rating that only six other jumpers had received before him.

Jurij Tepeš is the son of the well-known ski jumper and today's ski jumping official Miran Tepeš and brother of the ski jumper Anja Tepeš .
