Location of Lühnde in Lower Saxony

Ev. St. Martin Church

Lühnde is a district of the municipality of Algermissen in the Hildesheim district in Lower Saxony .

history

The location of the village near the Hassel , the historic painting site of the old Saxon district of Astfala , contributed significantly to its early special position. The mother church of all later parishes and the seat of a spiritual court was built here. The cruciform Romanesque archdeacon church of St. Martin made of quarry stone was first mentioned in 1117. The original structure as a pillar basilica with east transept and three semicircular apses from the 12th century was later redesigned. A keystone of the Gothic vault ribs shows the head of St.  Stephen and indicates that there was a Stephen altar in one of the side apses. Churches in which Stephen was venerated as a secondary patron are among the oldest Christian churches in Germany. The Martins patronage points to a foundation by Franconian missionaries, perhaps also to parts of the Franconian population that settled here after the Saxon Wars .

In the Middle Ages, Lühnde was protected by a wall with a moat. Street names such as Bledelner Tor , Bolzumer Tor and Wätzumer Tor are reminiscent of this . There are some interesting half-timbered houses around the church .

On September 6, 1944, a bomb detonated in the Feldmark, not far from Lühnde. Numerous houses in the village were damaged by the air pressure on the roof. 25,000 roof tiles were required to repair the damage.

Up until 1997, Lühnde owned a post office for many decades, which was run by Elisabeth and Hermann Dohrs.

Incorporations

In the course of the regional reform in Lower Saxony , the municipality of Lühnde lost its political independence on March 1, 1974 and became a district of the municipality of Algermissen.

fire Department

On January 25, 1902, the citizens of Lühnde founded the Lühnde volunteer fire brigade . This meant that all citizens between the ages of 17 and 55 in Lühnde were obliged to join the fire brigade, unless they were civil servants, soldiers, gendarmes, clergy, doctors, pharmacists, teachers or students.

Today the local fire brigade has 3 vehicles for fire fighting and assistance and has around 60 active fire fighters. It also has its own youth fire brigade with 20 members. The fire brigade equipment house is located in Hangeräthsweg and was extended in 2010 to include the clubhouse of the TuS Lühnde sports club.

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Lühnde
Blazon : “A green hill in gold , covered with a red shield placedat an angle , inside a golden lion ; on the hill a zweizinnige red wall , from the center growing a green hazel . "
Foundation of the coat of arms: In the Middle Ages Lühnde had a special meaning, because the village church was the main office of all parishes in the area and seat of a spiritual court, the so-called Sende. In addition, there were a number of secular dishes on site. Especially the Goding of the Go Hassel. The court took place in the open air on a hill that was probably called Hassel because it was surrounded by hazelnut blades. In the municipal coat of arms of this Goding should be noted. The green mountain with the red wall and the hazel bush, which is also green, indicate the location of this dish. However, because Lühnde also had two free things (in Lühnde and Loppenstedt ), a red shield with a golden lion, the symbol of freedom, was placed diagonally on the mountain as a coat of arms.
