Pawel Konstantinowitsch Koltschin ( Russian : Павел Константинович Колчин ; born January 9, 1930 in Yaroslavl ; † December 29, 2010 in Otepää ) was an Estonian citizen and a Soviet cross-country skier and trainer .
Career
In 1955, Kolchin came second in the Holmenkollen Ski Festival in the 50 km run and third in the Lahti Ski Games in the 18 km run. The following year he won the bronze medal over 15 km and 30 km and the gold medal with the relay at the Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo . He also achieved sixth place over 50 km. In late February 1957 he won the 15 km run at the Lahti Ski Games. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1958 , he won over 15 km, over 30 km and with the relay the silver medal. In March 1958 he won the Holmenkollen Ski Festival over 15 km and over 50 km. Four years later he won the bronze medal with the relay at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane in 1962 . In 1963 he was sixth at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival over 50 km and third at the Svenska Skidspelen in Falun with the relay. At the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , he won the bronze medal with the relay. He also achieved sixth place over 15 km there.
Kolchin won the Soviet championships six times with the relay (1953–1955, 1957, 1958, 1964), four times over 15 km (1956, 1957, 1963, 1964), three times over 30 km (1956, 1957, 1963) and once over 70 km (1963). For his service he received three medals: two Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1957 and 1973) and Honor (1970). In 1963, he was the first Russian to be honored with the Holmenkollen Medal together with his wife and former cross-country skier Alewtina Kolchina . Their son is the former Nordic combined skier Fyodor Koltschin .
After his active career, he worked as a trainer, including eight years for the Soviet cross-country skiing team (1968-1976). After living in Estonia for many years, he accepted Estonian citizenship in 1996.
