Pål Bjarne Tyldum (born March 28, 1942 in Høylandet , Nord-Trøndelag ) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier .

Career

Tyldum, who started for the Hållingen IL, won his first gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games in 1968 with the 4 x 10-kilometer relay. He also achieved seventh place over 15 km and fourth place over 50 km. In the same year he won the Lahti Ski Games over 15 km and took second place over 50 km at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival . The following year he was third at the Svenska Skidspelen over 30 km and first over 50 km at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1970 in Vysoké Tatry , he finished eleventh over 50 km, fifth over 15 km and fourth place over 30 km and with the relay. In the same year he came fourth over 15 km and third place over 50 km at the Lahti Ski Games and second place over 50 km at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. He was also honored with the Holmenkollen Medal in 1970 . In March 1971 he won second place over 15 km and first place over 50 km at the Lahti Ski Games. At the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo he became Olympic champion over 50km and won over the 30-km-distance as well as with the relay in each case the silver medal . Because of this success at the Olympics, he won the Fearnleys olympiske ærespris . In March 1972 he won again at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival over 50 km. In 1973 he triumphed at the Svenska Skidspelen with the relay and took third place over 50 km at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1974 in Falun , he came 21st over 30 km. In early March 1974 he finished second over 50 km at the Lahti Ski Games. His last international race was at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck . There he won the silver medal with the relay and also achieved 20th place over 15 km and seventh place over 50 km. At Norwegian championships he won three times over 15 km (1969, 1971, 1973), three times over 50 km (1968, 1970, 1972) and once over 30 km (1972).
