Emil Iversen (born August 12, 1991 ) is a Norwegian cross-country skier .

Career

Iversen, who starts for Il Varden Meraaker, competed in junior races from 2009 to 2011. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2011 in Otepää , he won gold with the relay. From 2011 to 2015 he took part in FIS races and the Scandinavian Cup. He scored two victories in the 2013/14 season and took third place in the overall standings. He ran his first World Cup race in December 2013 in Lillehammer , which he finished classically in 37th place over 15 km. At the beginning of the 2014/15 season he reached 27th place in the overall ranking at the Nordic Opening and thus also got his first World Cup points. Participation in the Scandinavian Cup followed. In January 2015 he took sixth place in the World Cup sprint race in Rybinsk, his first top ten finish in the World Cup. In the same month he won bronze in the sprint at the Norwegian championship. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season he reached his first podium finish in Lillehammer with third place in the relay. At the following Scandinavian Cup in Vuokatti , he achieved third place in the sprint and won over 15 km classic. He finished the 2016 Tour de Ski in tenth place. He won his first World Cup victory in the sprint stage in Oberstdorf . In February 2016 he won the World Cup sprint in Lahti . He finished seventh at the Ski Tour Canada . He came three times under the top ten and won in Montreal in the 17.5 km mass start race. He finished the season in 15th place in the Distance World Cup, ninth place in the Sprint World Cup and eighth place in the overall World Cup. In March 2016 he won the Storlirennet in Meråker over 36 km freestyle. and finished second at the Norwegian Championships in the 10 km freestyle in early April 2016. After finishing second in the first World Cup of the 2016/17 season in Ruka over 15 km classic, he came fourth in the World Cup mini tour in Lillehammer. He took second place in the sprint stage. In January 2017, he won the 30 km mass start race in Falun and finished second in the sprint. At the season highlight of the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti, he was tenth in the sprint and fourth together with Johannes Høsflot Klæbo in the team sprint. At the end of the season he came in 32nd place in the World Cup finals in Québec and reached 14th place in the Distance World Cup, 11th place in the overall World Cup and seventh place in the Sprint World Cup. In April 2017 he won the Svalbard skimaraton over 42 km classic.

In the 2017/18 season Iversen finished 15th in the Ruka Triple and 14th in the Tour de Ski 2017/18 . He won his fifth World Cup victory in the 15 km mass start race in Oberstdorf . At the World Cup in Planica , he took second place in the sprint. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he finished tenth in the 50 km mass start race and eighth in the sprint. At the end of the season he came in 31st place at the World Cup finals in Falun and finally reached 19th place in the Distance World Cup, ninth place in the overall World Cup and fourth place in the Sprint World Cup. At the beginning of the 2018/19 season he came in second place over 15 km classic in Ruka and achieved second place in the sprint in Lillehammer , third place in the Lillehammer triple overall classification. At the following World Cup in Beitostølen , he won the relay. At the Tour de Ski 2018/19 , which he ended prematurely, he won the 15 km mass start race in Oberstdorf and at the Norwegian championships in Meråker in the skiathlon and over 15 km classic. In February 2019 he won the team sprint in Lahti together with Johannes Høsflot Klæbo . At the season highlight of the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld in Tirol , he won the gold medal with the relay and together with Johannes Høsflot Klæbo in the team sprint. In March 2019, he finished second in the Falun sprint and fifth in the Québec World Cup final. He finished tenth in the Distance World Cup, eighth in the Sprint World Cup and sixth in the overall World Cup. At the end of March 2019, he and Jørgen Sæternes Ulvang became Norwegian champions in the team sprint in Lygna .

After two third places in the Ruka Triple and third overall at the beginning of the 2019/20 season, Iversen came third in the skiathlon in Lillehammer . In the 2020 ski tour, which he finished in fourth place, he won the pursuit in Trondheim and came third in the 34 km mass start race in Meråker . At the end of the season he came in third place in the 50 km mass start race in Oslo and finished ninth in the overall World Cup and seventh in the Distance World Cup.
