Autumnal is a Spanish doom metal band from Madrid that was formed in 1998.
history
The band was founded in 1998 by the drummer Ricardo and the singer and guitarist Javier de Pablo. After the band had released several demos, the debut album Gray Universe was released in 2006 via Xtreem Music . The release was followed by appearances in Ireland , the Netherlands and Portugal along with bands such as Anathema , Katatonia , Morgion , Draconian , Officium Triste and Isole . In 2014 the next album The End of the Third Day was released . It also contains a cover version of the Supertramp song Don't Leave Me Now .
style
According to Sebastian Schilling from Rock Hard , the band is not based on Black Sabbath , but on the Doom Metal style of the 1990s. Schilling found that the band's music was reminiscent of Tiamat , Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride . Ricardo de Pablo stated in an interview with Schilling that these bands had an influence on Autumnal. However, members would also hear other bands such as Kansas , Pink Floyd , Genesis , Supertramp, Anathema, Cathedral , Officium Triste, Mastodon, and Converge . Schilling had reviewed the album an issue earlier. He assigned the album to Doom and Gothic Metal . The group was oriented towards bands from the 1990s such as Type O Negative , Paradise Lost and Tiamat.
