Wassili Pawlowitsch Rotschew ( Russian Васи́лий Па́влович Рочев; born December 22, 1951 in Bakur, ASSR Komi ) is a former Russian cross-country skier who started for the Soviet Union in the 1970s and early 1980s . He is the father of Wassili Wassiljewitsch Rotschewa and is married to Nina Rotschewa ; both were also successful cross-country skiers.

Career

Rotschew, who started for Dynamo Syktywkar, appeared internationally for the first time at the European Junior Championships in 1971 in Nesselwang . There he won the silver medal over 15 km and the gold medal with the relay. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1974 in Falun , he won the bronze medal over 15 km and the silver medal with the relay. In addition, he was fifth there over 50 km. In 1974 and 1975 he won the Lahti Ski Games in the 15 km run. At the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , he finished 12th over 50 km and tenth place over 30 km. The following year he won the Svenska Skidspelen with the relay and also achieved third place over 30 km. At the end of February 1977, he won the relay at the Lahti Ski Games and for the third time the 15 km run. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1978 , he was eighth over 15 km and fourth in the relay. Two years later he won the gold medal with the Soviet 4x10 km relay and the silver medal over 30 km at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid . In the race over 15 km he came in 13th place. In Soviet championships he won seven times with the relay (1972-1976, 1978, 1980), twice over 15 km (1974, 1975), twice over 30 km (1974, 1977) and once over 50 km (1979).
