Bernt Assar Rönnlund (born September 3, 1935 in Sävar , Umeå municipality ; † January 5, 2011 ) was a Swedish cross-country skier .

Career

Rönnlund, who started for IFK Umeå , finished 12th over 50 km at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley . In March 1961 he won the Lahti Ski Games over 50 km and finished second over 15 km. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane in 1962 , he was world champion over 15 km and with the relay. He also won the silver medal over 50 km and took sixth place over 30 km. For these achievements he was honored with the Svenska Dagbladet gold medal. In the same year he won the Holmenkollen Ski Festival over 50 km for the first time . The following year he took third place in the Svenska Skidspelen over 30 km. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , he won the silver medal over 50 km and was Olympic champion with the Swedish relay. He also came in 13th place over 15 km and seventh place over 30 km. In March 1964 he was second at the Lahti Ski Games over 15 km. The following year he won the 30 km run at the Svenska Skidspelen and the 50 km run at the Lahti Ski Games. At the Svenska Skidspelen in 1966 he won second place over 30 km. In 1967 he won the Vasa race and the 15 km run at the Lahti Ski Games. At the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble , he won the silver medal with the relay. He also took 11th place over 15 km and tenth place over 50 km. In the same year he also won the 50 km run at the Lahti Ski Games and for the second time the 50 km run at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. In Swedish championships he won three times over 15 km (1962, 1965, 1967), five times over 30 km (1959, 1963-1965, 1967) and five times over 50 km (1962, 1963, 1966, 1967, 1969). With the season of IFK Umeå he was champion in 1962. After his career as an athlete, Rönnlund worked as a sports commentator for Sveriges Radio .

Rönnlund was married to the Swedish cross-country skier and Olympic champion Toini Gustafsson . He died on January 5, 2011 after a long illness.
