Klaes Karppinen (born October 9, 1907 in Kirkkosalmi , † January 24, 1992 in Iisalmi ) was a Finnish cross-country skier who was active in the 1930s.

Career

Karppinen, who started for the Iisalmen Visa , won the gold medal with the relay at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1934 in Sollefteå . He also achieved fifth place over 18 km there. The following year he won the silver medal over 50 km and the gold medal over 18 km and with the relay at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Vysoké Tatry . At the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he won the gold medal with the relay. He also ran there in fifth place over 50 km. In February 1937 he won the 50 km and the relay the silver medal at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Chamonix . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1938 , he won the gold medal with the relay. In the individual races there he came in 14th place over 18 km and fifth over 50 km. He completed his last international race at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane in 1939 . There he won the silver medal over 18 km and 50 km and the gold medal with the relay. In 1941 he became Finnish champion with the Iisalmen Visa relay.
