Heikki Vihtori Hasu (born March 21, 1926 in Sippola ) is a former Finnish skier who was successful in Nordic combined and cross-country skiing . Later he was active as a politician.

Career

Hasu, who competed for Myllykosken Kilpa-Veikot , made his international debut at the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz . He won the gold medal in the individual Nordic combined . Over 18 kilometers in cross-country skiing, he finished fourth and narrowly missed another medal. A short time after the games, Hasu celebrated his first success at the Lahti Ski Games in Nordic combined. He was also able to celebrate this success the following year. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lake Placid in 1950 , Hasu won the gold medal in the Nordic Combined and the silver medal in the cross-country skiing relay.

In 1951 he won again at the Lahti Ski Games. In Oslo , Hasu won his second Olympic gold medal at the 1952 Winter Olympics together with Paavo Lonkila , Urpo Korhonen and Tapio Mäkelä in the cross-country relay competition. Since the cross-country skiing competitions were also considered the Nordic World Ski Championships , he was also world champion. In the individual of the Nordic combined he had to admit defeat to the Norwegian Simon Slåttvik and won the silver medal. He just missed a third medal as fourth in 18 km cross-country skiing. He was only four seconds behind his compatriot Paavo Lonkila, who won bronze.

In 1953 he was the first Finn to win the combination competition on Holmenkollen.
