Anjalankoski [ ˈɑnjɑlɑŋkɔski ] is a formerly independent city in southeastern Finland . It was created in 1975 as a market town (kauppala) from the merger of the municipalities of Anjala and Sippola and received town charter two years later. In 2009 Anjalankoski was incorporated into the city of Kouvola together with Kuusankoski , Valkeala , Jaala and Elimäki .

Anjalankoski is located in the Kymenlaakso region on the central reaches of the Kymijoki River . The administrative city area of Anjalankoski covered an area of 752.92 km². However, it was not an urban structured area, rather Anjalankoski consisted of the three settlement centers ( taajama ) Myllykoski , Inkeroinen and Anjala as well as surrounding rural areas. The administrative center of Anjalankoski was Keltakangas, south of Myllykoski . The last population of Anjalankoski was 16,379.

The industrial towns of Myllykoski and Inkeroinen belonging to Anjalankoski are important centers of the Finnish paper industry; the largest local employers are the paper mills of Stora Enso and Myllykoski Paper . As an example of modern industrial architecture, the Tampella Company's paper mill (now Stora Enso Anjala Paper Mill), built by Alvar Aalto in 1937, is of interest. Metal processing and chemical industries have also settled here. Myllykoski is also the home of the Finnish soccer champions Myllykosken Pallo -47 (mostly abbreviated to MyPa ) from 2005. The place Anjala is known for the Anjalabund , which was concluded in 1788 , a conspiracy of Finnish and Swedish officers against the Swedish King Gustav III . Anjalankoski was twinned with Eilenburg in Germany.
