Rudolf Burkert (born October 31, 1904 in Polaun ; † June 7, 1985 in Germany ) was a German-Bohemian skier who was successful in Nordic combined and ski jumping for Czechoslovakia .

Career

Burkert won the Nordic Combined World Championship at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1927 in Cortina d'Ampezzo . However, this was due to the fact that neither Norway nor Finland sent athletes. A year later at the Olympic Games in St. Moritz in 1928 , which was also considered the Nordic World Ski Championships, he won the bronze medal in ski jumping and reached 12th place in the Nordic Combined He was the first Czech to win a medal at the Winter Olympic Games. Five years later he won silver again in ski jumping at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Innsbruck in 1933 . In 1934 he had to end his active career because of a foot injury. This injury saved him from military service in World War II . After the war he was not from his home despite his background as Sudeten Germans expelled and lived from 1945 in Tanvald . In 1968 he officially emigrated to Germany, where he died in 1985.
