Tapio Valfrid Mäkelä (born October 12, 1926 in Nastola , † May 12, 2016 in Jämsä ) was a Finnish cross-country skier .

Mäkelä, who started for the Lahden Hiihtoseura, made his first international appearance at the 1950 World Championships in Lake Placid . There he finished 12th over 18 km. In March 1950 he ran at the Lahti Ski Games in second place in the 18 km run. The following year he won the Svenska Skidspelen over 18 km and took third place over 18 km in the Lahti Ski Games. At the Olympic Winter Games in Oslo in 1952 , he won the gold medal with the Finnish relay and the silver medal over 18 km. Two years later at the World Championships in Falun in 1954 , he became world champion with the relay. In the course of 15 km he came in fifth. At Finnish championships he won in 1948 with the relay of Lahden Hiihtoseura and in 1952 over 18 km.
