Arild Monsen (born April 5, 1962 ) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier .

Career

Monsen had his first international successes at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 1981 in Schonach in the Black Forest . There he won the silver medal over 15 km and the gold medal with the relay. The following year he won the silver medal with the relay at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Murau . He made his debut in the cross-country skiing world cup in January 1982 in Le Brassus , which he finished in 11th place over 15 km. In the 1982/83 season he achieved his best placements in the individual World Cup with fourth place over 15 km in Sarajevo and in Lahti . He finished 11th in the overall World Cup. In the 1984/85 season he came with three top ten placements in the individual World Cup to 12th place in the overall World Cup. At the season highlight, the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1985 in Seefeld in Tyrol , he won the gold medal with the relay. He was also seventh there over 15 km. In March 1985 he took third place in Falun and in March 1986 second place with the relay. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1987 in Oberstdorf , he achieved 20th place over 15 km classic. In March 1988 he won the World Cup in Oslo with the relay. He completed his last international races at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1989 . There he achieved 20th place over 15 km classic and fourth place with the relay. At Norwegian championships he won in 1985 with the relay from Hokksund Idrettslag and in 1987 over 15 km.

After his active career as a cross-country skier, he coached the Canadian national cross-country skiing team in the 2007/08 season. From 2009 to 2013 he was the coach of the Swedish sprint team. He has been training the Norwegian sprint team since 2013.
